The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has approved the HECA power plant in Kern County arguing that the plant will mitigate the effects of its emissions (over 6,000 tons of pollution per year, not including the influx of mobile sources bringing in coal and petroleum coke to Kern County).
The California Energy Commission is now reviewing the proposal and will reveal reports within the next months. Despite the tagline that this project will bring “Clean Energy” most environmental justice groups understand that this plant will cause added pollution to Kern County and the vallley that will not be mitigated by the plant!
