South Kern Youth Seek Donations to Present at National Conference

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Christopher Chavez, currently a 17 year-old senior at South High School in Bakersfield, California. I am a youth leader in my own community, as well as Youth Council Treasurer. Founded in 2010 by the Community–Based Public Health Caucus (CBPH Caucus), the Youth Council provides a national voice for youth leaders working in their communities to eliminate health disparities and promote social justice. This will be my third year with the Youth Council, which meets at the annual American Public Health Association conference (APHA) attended by 13,000 public health professionals, November 15-19, 2014 in New Orleans. Most Youth Council members are presenting at APHA on topics such as HIV/Aids prevention, VideoVoice healthy community policy, and environmental change making.

I am writing to you to request travel funding. I am one of the California youth accepted to present at the CBPH Caucus-hosted Youth Leading the Way to Healthier Communities Roundtable and on the Kern Increased Active Transportation Investment panel.

The Youth Council seeks funding for conference travel scholarships ($1750/youth). In the past YC had external funding, but for the first time, we are raising our own travel funds. There is an excellent fit between the missions and priorities of your organization and the Youth Council. Please help California youth share their work on the national stage. Payments can be made to CBPHC Youth Council c/o California Walks, below.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. I hope to hear from you soon.
